So, I was going through my ribbon stash and realized that it takes me too long to find what I'm looking for. Here are a couple of pics of this MIESS. I've tried the boxes where you pull the ribbon through but it just seems to get all tangled up. I've tried keeping it organized in bins and its the same problem.
How do you store your ribbon?

I just recently recieved a crafting shelf from my parents for Christmas! the two bottom shelves have a wooden dowel that goes all the way through with holders on each end....it works wonders....I only have one of the wooden dowels filled because I dont have very much ribbon so winning some more would help me fill the empty void ;)

It's not my original idea, but I store my ribbon in vinyl gutters. It's a great, easy and inexpensive storage solution! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell I had the same problem. Then I decided to put a pin at the end of each roll to keep it together and the loose ribbon I cut cardboard and wrapped it around and pinned it at the end! Seems to work pretty good:) Hope that helps!

I used my Crop a Dile to punch holes in a photo box. I then put the ribbon on dowels and pulled pieces through the holes punched in the box. I think it works great - easy to store and easy access.

I have the best hubby in the world, he made me a hugh ribbon rack which hold all my ribbon that is on spools, he also just made me a shelf for all my skickles so they can be upside down and not falling all over the place. I think I should really take pictures and post on my blog.
ReplyDeletehi Liz.....oh ribbon..lol heres a video on how I store mine it works great for me!

good luck ! Scrappinwithmybug
LOL. My ribbon gets really messy most of the time. I just get lazy. But I keep my ribbon in a HUGE basket that sits in my floor in my craft room. If you just remember to tape the ribbon down, you can throw it in a big basket. :) I will gladly take any suggestions anyone else has too. :)
ReplyDeleteRibbon is the one thing I actually have organized. Here is how mine is... http://craftygirl21.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-ribbon-storage.html
ReplyDeleteMy husband made me the long one and I found the white one at a yard sale. Good luck.

My husband took the bar out of my craft room closet and put in a smaller dowel rod to hang my ribbon. I also have pants hangers for the smaller rolls.

I'm sending you a picture by email of how I store my ribbon. I use curtain rods. It's inexpensive and I can see all my ribbon, plus use it easily!
ReplyDeleteI use a CD holder.....it holds a lot....and you just pick your roll of ribbon...use it...then put it back.....even the little bar adjuster helps....tfs

ReplyDeleteI've tried so many different ways, but have finally settled on one that works great for me! I'm a very visual person - out of sight, out of mind - so I have to have everything "handy" or I won't remember to use it. I now use the Ribbon Ring system, just like Samantha. In fact, I have almost the identical set up as her.
ReplyDeleteAt first, I just used some "S hooks" to hang the rings from the top of my floor lamp shade, but then I bought some of those removable clear hooks and mounted them to the side of my bookcase - the one that butts up to the table I work at. Now they hang, all color coordinated, from those hooks and it not only keeps everything organized, but makes the side of the bookcase look prettier! :)
I haven't taken any new photos since I moved them to the hooks on the side of the bookcase, but it looks very much like the link that Samantha posted, so you can get the idea.

Hi Liz,
ReplyDeleteI think I have more ribbon than paper (gasp!)! I actually store my ribbon in 4 different ways, but here's my favorite:

I got mine at Michael's with a 40% or 50% off coupon (so I paid $5-$6 each) and I've filled about 8 of my 12 so far. Because they're made of clear acrylic, you can see what you have and it keeps the dust out!!! :) The best part is that they stack perfectly (I have mine 3-4 high) and they connect end to end, too.
I love them!

Hi Liz,
ReplyDeleteI posted from my iphone, but it's not here...so here we go again. I have a few different systems. The first is the shelf from Michaels that has two dowels on it. When I only had 60 rolls or so, I was able to fit them all there. As I started getting $1 deals and such, I started to put them in a drawer in my IKEA chest. They stay pretty organized in there. I use pins to keep the ribbon from unraveling. I also have a basket (similar to a mini laundry basket) that I got at Dollar Tree. I keep the 25 yard spools there. They usually stay in place. Finally, I have a clear paint gallon container that I keep the ribbon scraps in. That way, i can see whatever cuts I have.
I have been thinking of using the IKEA hanging wire baskets. They are the perfect size for the regular rolls.
Good luck. You must come over and play soon!

This is something I've struggled w/too. I've got quite a collection of ribbon, so most ready made methods don't hold enough. Plus, much of my ribbon is not on spools and while I've tried various card methods I'm too lazy to be consistent w/them - I'd rather be scrapping. :)
ReplyDeleteRight now I have a combination of ribbon boxes (ready made and home made) w/the pull through hole, clear plastic boxes w/the ribbon wrapped cards and a wire cart on wheels - love that b/c I can roll into whatever room I'm working in.
I'll definitely keep my ribbon cart and will at some point ditch the other methods in favor of one which will allow for my need to see it to use it and my laziness - I see a clear over the door shoe hanger w/ribbon organized by color in my future. Plus, any extra pockets can be used organize scrap memorabilia & life encountered embellys - ticket stubs and such.
Ugh. Ribbon. I have most of mine in a huge ziploc - it's all just tossed in there. The rest is in screw top lid containers all just tossed in, or loose in a box. It's horrible!! I'm too lazy to do anything with it ...
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the great tips. I'll make a decision this coming week on what I'm going to do. If there's more than one post with the same method I'll use random.org to pick the winner. Thanks!!!
